This variety is a selected mauve form. Its flowers somehow look almost too large for the plant. With age, it covers itself in flowers. Most asters are thought of as blooming in fall. This one blooms in late spring. Being native to mountains in Europe such as the Alps, it is not a plant to grow in the South. It is better suited for cooler climates. USDA Hardiness Zones 4 - 7 in the East, Zones 4 - 8 in the West. And even farther north to Zone 3 with snow cover or other protection.
